Remote Access to Law Library Services

This guide provides information on library services provided to the USC Gould community during the COVID-19 public health crisis.

Course Reserves - Fall 2020

At this time, the law library is closed and cannot reopen until we receive reopening approval from local, county, and state authorities. Unfortunately, casebook publishers are not offering complimentary access to casebooks for Fall 2020, and the cost is prohibitive for the law school to subscribe to all assigned e-casebooks.

For Fall 2020 classes, we urge students to seek out discounted and used copies of casebooks (see the instructions and discount codes below). If you have additions or suggestions for this list, please contact

Remember, the law school subscribes to several electronic study aids collections from CALI, West Academic, and Wolters Kluwer. These study aids are accessible remotely to our students for free. Save money! See the law library’s study aids page for more information.

Discounts on Casebooks

If you live outside the United States, please buy electronic copies of your casebooks, if possible. Physical copies can take a very long time to reach you--a month or more.

All books ordered through the Carolina Academic Press webstore receive a 10% discount. If you order study aids totaling $50 or more (not including casebooks or textbooks), you’ll receive free USPS shipping. If you wish to have your study aids shipped via UPS ground for faster delivery, a flat $5.00 fee will be charged.

Get 15% off all print and digital casebooks with the code SOCALLAW on their webstore. Digital-only casebooks are already discounted 25% off the list print price, so the SOCALLAW discount code would be an additional discount.

You can get a 40% off list price for digital-only Casebook Connect Casebooks using this link

Earlier editions

You may be able to save even more money by using a previous edition of a casebook. Publishers often post the complete table of contents of the newest edition on their website. See this example for a Secured Transactions casebook. (Scroll down to see "Detailed Table of Contents (PDF Download)"). You can download it and compare to your older edition to convert page numbers from the reading assignments in your syllabus. (You could also ask your professor to scan the current table of contents and send it to you.) Be sure to read any new cases that are not in the older edition by using Google Scholar, Lexis or Westlaw.
